A note from our founders

Our greatest compliment came from a client who said “there are a lot of companies out there that offer the services of Something Fabulous, but none of them have the heart of Something Fabulous”.

We are small, but we are mighty and we have a lot of heart.

Non-profits and Associations… Your cause becomes our cause because we understand that we help to change the world with you and through the work that you do.

Couples and families… we understand that your entire celebration experience matters because although you invite us into your celebration planning and design for a short amount of time, your memories of those moments last a lifetime.

Corporate event planners and meeting facilitators… we’re here for you. You’re making the world go around. Our proven strategies can support you and the work you’re doing. Our goal is to help you simplify the planning process and create meaningful experiences for your organization and the cause you serve.

We’re Honored

What we’ve learned is that while trends come and go, it’s the classic elements in everyday life that make for timeless and beautiful design. It’s this fresh perspective that allows us to keep our pulse on the trends while moving forward into uncharted territory. Which, according to our clients, is what makes our work Something Fabulous.

Meet the Team

Kimberly Allen

Co-Founder | Chief Experience Officer

I have worked alongside my sister and a team of incredible women to build an organization that is not only called Something Fabulous but is one that has a culture and product that is something fabulous!  I am and we are experts in all things Virtual and Live Event Management and Experience Design.

In my career, I’ve managed event marketing, gala, ceremony and trade show programs. I have designed and built props, steamed wardrobe, pulled feeder cable, focused lights and run light boards. I have loaded trucks, driven forklifts, managed union crews, scheduled trucking and climbed the big top.  I have set up tents, set up in hotels, arenas and convention centers as a member and manager of a crew, account management team and as a small business owner and operations expert.

In 2019 Kimberly and Jennifer were recognized by BizBash as The Top 1,000 people in events in the United States. Something Fabulous has also been recognized as one of the Top 25 Best Women-Owned Businesses by Working Mother Magazine, Top 14 Best Event Design, Planning Companies in Metro DC by PartySlate in addition to winning multiple National Association of Catering and Events (NACE) awards for design and production through the years.

Why:

I believe in transparency and authenticity in every aspect of life.  When we seek to understand one another we begin to truly see the beauty that exists in the world. Our clients are a constant source of inspiration, education and influence in my life. I feel grateful for the opportunities that I have because of these amazing people and their choice to work with Something Fabulous.

Jennifer Charles

Co-Founder | Chief Creative Officer

My specialty is in design, trends and building relationships. I enjoy delving into the “why” behind an event, marketing campaign or celebration, and designing custom experiences that tell stories and increase engagement for our clients and their guests.

I have a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I started my career in radio, television and film. From interning at The Today Show and Good Morning America to working production at The Food Network and Newline Cinema, I have experienced storytelling from many different angles and industries.  I have enjoyed bringing that experience into the work that we do as Experience Designers.

In 2019 Kimberly and I were recognized by BizBash as The Top 1,000 people in events in the United States. Something Fabulous has also been recognized as one of the Top 25 Best Women-Owned Businesses by Working Mother Magazine, Top 14 Best Event Design, Planning Companies in Metro DC by PartySlate in addition to winning multiple National Association of Catering and Events (NACE) awards for design and production over the years.

Why:

I love memory making, building traditions and meaningful conversation.  I love the sounds, sights & feeling of bringing people together. Sharing meaningful moments, a meal together with family, friends or colleagues. Building a program that brings people together to make an impact in the world. Philanthropy, unity, passion. I  truly believe I couldn’t be doing anything else.  It’s what wakes me up every morning knowing that I have an opportunity to be a part of someone’s love story, charitable cause, community event or product launch. I love understanding the “Why” behind the event & helping my clients orchestrate the vision to bring it to life.  Designing to me is more about the “why” than the trend. It’s timeless, creative & unique to each person or organization. There’s no one size fits all or should we say one design fits all. To me – At the end of the day, it’s about life celebrations. They happen everyday and we just need to be present to realize they are happening. I feel truly blessed that I have the opportunity to help people enjoy the process & create memories & experiences. I couldn’t ask for a better life mission.

Samantha Smart

Senior Event Partner

As the Senior Event Manager on our Something Fabulous team, I work closely with our clients to deliver on key objectives and program initiatives. Internally I manage details of our marketing and internal projects as well as mentor our new team members. At the beginning of my career I wanted to only plan weddings and loved love. Over the years I have found that my true love is the management side of our contracts and making a difference by supporting the mission and objectives of our nonprofit and association clients.

I joined Something Fabulous in 2013 as an intern. I have enjoyed growing into and expanding my role within the company while expanding my expertise and knowledge through the new opportunities our client work offers.  In 2017-2018, the National Defense Industrial Association – Michigan Chapter honored me with an award for Exceptional Support for my work on the Michigan Defense Exposition.

Outside of the office, I love to spend time with friends and family, go on weekend getaway trips, and coach high school cheerleading. I attended Brigham Young University-Idaho and received a degree in University Studies in 2015. It’s a degree that serves me well as I build a career and life that celebrates meaningful work, family and everyday life.

Why:

My WHY is in telling the stories of nonprofits, hearing the experiences that these organizations represent, and giving them a voice. I am passionate about the work we do, the causes that our work supports and the stories that it brings to life. I love hearing people’s hopes and visions; giving voice to stories and being a part of making ideas come to life.  I am honored to be involved in such amazing causes. For me, it’s about celebrating the little wins, the moments you can’t get back and being a part of something bigger than myself that makes a difference in our world.

Moe Moua

Director of Sales

With over a decade of experience in hospitality and events I bring a different perspective to our Something Fabulous Event Management team.  I have built my career at some of Metro Detroit’s most prestigious venues; including The Royal Park Hotel as the Corporate Catering Manager and The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center as the Catering Sales Executive. I am proud of my reputation of being able to grow relationships and I believe that great customer service is at the heart of great customer experiences and Experience Design!

I have been an active Young Leader for the Detroit Economic Club and an Inform member.  Previously, I served as the Co-Chair for the Troy Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals as well as on the National Association of Catering and Events Detroit Chapter’ events/meetings committee.

Why:

One of my biggest “Whys” are the people and our/my connection to them. I truly enjoy the people inside our organization. Each of us are made up of different strengths. I’ve surrounded myself with a group of people who are experts at the things I’m not good at; this makes me look like a ROCK STAR all the time.

I also love my clients who have turned into friends. Not only have I been able to plan their events and celebrations; I’ve been able to be part of them. I feel so fortunate at every event to be the one creating these moments for them or making them look like the superstar for a successful conference/event.

Debbie Boback

Business Manager

Since 2015,  I have been a key member of our Business Management team at Something Fabulous; supporting our Operations and what we call BOB – the Business of our Business. Customers and vendors know me as the person sending and receiving invoices and our team looks to me to keep things moving forward and on time. I’m behind the scenes, but at the heart of everything we do.

I have 20+ years experience in the coordination, planning, and support of financial, daily operational and administrative functions in a variety of industries from manufacturing, quality consulting to education.  My years of collaboration with colleagues give me an edge in understanding client needs  and requirements which enable me to continue to improve internal and external relationships.

I have spent the majority of my career working in small business environments.   I enjoy the flexibility, variety and responsibility that is associated with a small business.  I have a degree from Walsh College.

I love being a part of the Something Fabulous team and that it is women-owned.  I adore my family which includes my two children, my two fur babies and my husband with whom I relocated to our dream lake house this summer.

Why:  While I’m a numbers gal, being a part of this creative team and organization allows me to think creatively. I like working with our creative experts and learning from them everyday!
